History of Eunos

Eunos is one of three brands created by Mazda in the late 1980s for the Japanese domestic market. Some of the Eunos cars were planned to be sold in the United States under the localized name Amati, but economic problems prevented this.


This car brand was designed to capture the premium segment of the market, and therefore was always sold in maximum trim levels. It got its name from the ancient Greek “EU”, which means “good”, and the abbreviated English “numbers” (“numbers”) - “NOS”. Sales started in Japan in January 1992 with the Eunos 500 model, and a decent portion of the cars were exported to the markets of other countries. However, in the mid-1990s, Mazda recognized the experiment with brand diversification as unsuccessful, and gradually returned to using one brand for all its products.

Until 1995, the company produced the Mazda Eunos Cosmo model. It is a luxury car.


The Mazda Eunos Cosmo model was released in coupe and sedan body styles. The coupe model sold more in the United States and Europe. This model is designed for wealthy buyers. The Mazda Familia model was also produced with a sedan body.

In terms of its technical characteristics, the Mazda Enos Cosmo model seemed revolutionary at that time. The car was equipped with a turbocharged rotary engine, the volume of which was 2.6 liters and the power of 230 horsepower. In newer versions of the Mazda Eunos Cosmo, you could count on power of up to 280 horsepower. The engine had distributed gasoline injection.


The car had a luxurious interior. Natural materials such as leather and wood were used for the interior of the cabin. The interior design was designed as the most harmonious for the car driver to stay in it.

Back in the early 90s, Mazda had a hard time. A significant part of the released models were unpopular; some were immediately lost among the masses and remained unnoticed, therefore they disappeared from the automobile markets. A solution was found: to release a new brand model Eunos. The new design of the Mazda Eunos 500 allowed the car manufacturer to gain incredible popularity and it so happened that this model remained in the memory of car enthusiasts. Soon the production of the Mazda Eunos Cosmo model began.


Externally, the Mazda Enos 500, designed as a sedan, resembles a product of “bio-design”. This car has external framing lines and geometric shapes as if drawn by nature. So this model has become forever relevant and attractive. This model is also being produced in 2015.
